Venice III - Burano, Venice

Saturday, September 13, 2014

We had to go back to Burano! We loved it so much. We got breakfast and people watched :) We bought a leather bracelet for Cody and got yelled at by an Italian man. Kind of an odd experience but also funny and memorable.

Look! Someone's painting the house a new shade of blue!

Typical breakfast for the two of us. A lunch item and a sweet breakfast treat! Oh, and don't forget the orange fanta!

 Paws! Kittens with Courtney!

Travel tips from Cody: "How do you figure out which way is north if you can't see the sun? use your GPS!"

We went to H&M and each replaced an item of clothing we brought. One of my tanks got a stain and it was just time for Cody's yellow hoodie to go (sorry Steven!) :( He bought a black one and I bought a white and black striped shirt (I wanted to be like the Venetian gondola men).

Then we found an alley to ditch the yellow sweatshirt where some lucky person would find a treasure.

We bought some food and went home to relax for a bit. We walked so much in Venice! We had a picnic with wine while we watched Parenthood with the windows to the canal open bringing in fresh air. While we were getting ready to go back out, we heard the gondola men singing from outside the bathroom window! It was awesome!

We went to a restaurant in the Jewish Quarter recommended by Francesca called BeaVita but it was closed :( It worked out perfectly though because super close to the restaurant was a local place selling cicchetti and we'd been wanting to try it!!

The place was filled with locals with everyone speaking Italian and we were super intimated. I made my way through the crowd and eventually got served! I just pointed to things :)

Another food we'd been wanting to try was a doner kebab. There are these huge poles with meat around them that is shaved off and put in a wrap with veggies and sauce. We found one as we were looking for somewhere to eat dinner. It was delicious! A very memorable food moment that's for sure!

For dessert we had coffee gelato! Mom, you would have loved it!

Our 1st Venetian gondla ride. l'amore รจ nell'aria!

Lessons learned in Italy:
Always bring a lock in my day bag for lovers lock bridges.
Never leave without TP.
Don't get private rooms where the bathroom is shared.
Carry a credit card in case a kiosk is broken and only accepts cards.
Rail pass number is required to book tickets at a kiosk in a train station.
Don't always listen to Rick Steves.

Things to remember about Italy:
There are lots of little dogs without leashes (Venice especially).
The pizza never comes sliced.
You must pay approximately 2 euros to sit down in any restaurant or cafe. If bread is served on the table...it does not taste good!
There are not a lot of places in Venice to sit down (without a cafe charge) to enjoy the view of the canals and boats.
Cicchetti tapas are so delicious and authentic! (local Venetian cuisine).
I was greeted by an Italian man with "hola."
