Lucca

Monday, September 8, 2014

We woke up early, ate at a little cafe (got orange fanta...our drink of choice every breakfast in Italy), then caught the 7:30am train to Lucca. What an adorable, picturesque little town! The look and feel of it reminded me of Orcas. We dropped off our Tom Bihns at a Tourist Center and rented bikes!! Oh my goodness we got the most perfect bikes I could imagine. They were blue and each had a bell and a basket! I definitely had my 1st "I'm in Italy" moment. Biking the Ramparts was an unforgettable experience. The weather was perfect (warm and breezy) and there were a few leaves on the ground representing the beginning of Fall.

We planned to go to a Whisky bar (more than 150 different kinds of whisky) but it was closed :( Instead we got some pizza at a cafe then some gelato (not as good as Pisa). We then realized we could catch a train that was leaving...IN 3 MINUTES...so we RAN to pick up our bags and booked it to the train station. We were a sweaty mess but we made it!!! Thank goodness too because the next train was about an hour and a half after that. On the train we went through a tunnel and since there were no lights on the train we were in complete blackness for at least a solid minute. We were totally freaked out at first and thought it wouldn't last very long but we just continued to sit in darkness and tried to grab all our bags just in case. It was scary!
