Munich II - Oktoberfest

Saturday, September 20, 2014

Breakfast time!

Oktoberfest parade in the rain! We met a local and her daughter who were super nice. With them was a girl visiting them from Greece. Beth, she reminded me so much of Anna!

After the parade we walked to the Oktoberfest grounds and totally lucked out! We found seats at a table outside the Hofbrauhaus tent! The rule is: No seat, no service.  We met James and Jackie from Toronto and Amy and Vinni from Florida (Vinni is in the air force and they currently live in Germany).

Jackie had a camera on a stick that really made me laugh! We've seen them all over Europe so it was fun to meet someone who had one :)

We ate 1/2 chicken and a pretzel. A chicken literally chopped in half and cooked then served. Pretty sweet!

Swing time with James and Jackie!

Dinner at Augustiner Braustuben (thanks for the suggestion Keith)! We ordered Weiner Schnitzel :) hehe

We spent the morning in Marienplatz. Walked down Kaufingerstrasse (all the shops were closed though because it was Sunday). Went inside St. Peters Church and listened to the Glockenspiel chime as 32 life size figures reinacted historical Bavarian events.

Lunch in the English Garden at Seahaus Beer Garden.

It started raining again on our way home so we decided to stop at a little cafe to grab a drink.

This place was so adorable! It was super local and really fun to spend some time. We ended up staying for a few hours. I used the WiFi and blogged and then we ended up eating dinner there.

We ordered Spatzel (a food I had been searching for!). It's pretty much ridiculously good mac n cheese :)

Munich I - Munich and Castles in Fussen!

Train to Munich! We walked out of the main train station and these were the first English words I saw!!!

Yes, yes I do.

Dinner at a restaurant recommended by our AIRBNB host and then we checked into our AIRBNB. Not our favorite. There were lots of things that bothered me so I had to write them down!

There was a smokey smell
The kitchen did not look like the pictures.
There was clutter EVERYWHERE.
The bathroom was not very clean.
The washer/dryer was in a separate building and cost money (super lame) - this was not mentioned when we booked the place.
Our host messaged us a day or so before to tell us our check in time would be delayed because she had to work late. So, we were in Munich for a few hours with our bags. When we checked in, there were 2 people who lived there and it appeared they had been there for a while (one of them was working on lesson plans) so we're not sure why there was any reason we couldn't have checked in earlier. Also, we never met our host.
The drawers were all full in the bedroom so all our stuff went on the floor (the description of the place talked about how we had drawer space)
ICK. I had fun in Munich but I was not sad to leave our AIRBNB!

Day trip to Fusssen to see the castles in Bavaria. Breakfast on the train!

On the train to Fussen, we saw a camel in a person's backyard. Totally normal.

Neuschwanstein Castle

Hohenschwangau Castle

Mary's Bridge! We left our lovers lock and threw away the key!

Alpee Lake! So beautiful! It is in the middle of the two castles. We went on a paddle boat ride. It reminded me of Fircreek :)

I'm pretty sure this is good advice...

Currywurst and pommes for lunch!

Hofbrauhaus Beer Hall!

Ox meat!

We made some new friends! Steve and Michelle from North Carolina. Dan, Sam, and Michael from Chicago. Michael's brother is a bartender in KC so we're going to visit him!

Hike #3 - Walked from Lauterbrunnen to Trummelbach Falls

This is where I would live!

On the way we saw people jumping off the side of the mountain and then parachuting down into a grassy field.

 Trummelbach Falls!

Swiss food leftovers and another movie outside in our huge snuggly blankets.
