The Cinque Terre III - Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza

Wednesday, September 10, 2014

It thunderstormed throughout the night which was awesome. The windows were open and cool air filled our place. It was perfect! We woke up early again to hike to Corniglia. After a few minutes of eating breakfast outside, it started to downpour! We couldn't really do anything...so we went back to bed and slept for 3 hours. It was actually quite wonderful. It rained and we caught up on sleep. The rest of the day was overcast for the most part and cooler than it's been the whole time in Italy which was a nice change. Once it stopped raining, we got some more gelato (blackberry and apple cake) then hiked about 10 minutes toward Corniglia to get a pretty picture of Vernazza.

Vernazza

Hike to Monterosso al Mare- 2 hours 45 min

Which one of these is not like the others?

It was such a gorgeous hike and really fun! IAbout an hour in, we realized we could totally listen to music while walking. So we did...and it was awesome. There's something epic about treking through the forest while listening to Nickel Creek, Paul Simon, The Shins, Greg Laswell, Joshua Radin, Bastille, and Rocky Votolato. We had such a fun time! At one point there was a lady that kept getting close to us so we stopped to let her pass. She stopped when we stopped, and eventually said "I like to be close so I can hear the music!" That was fun to hear :)

Paws! Kittens with Courtney!

Monterosso al Mare!

We explored the city, got getato (honey and coconut). So good! There were little chunks of honey and real pieces of coconut. There was a tunnel that brought you to the other side of the city and we were serenaded by a wonderful pianist that set a romantic mood!

We took a boat back to Vernazza which made me so happy. The smell instantly brought me back to whale cruises on staff breaks at Firwood. I was in my happy place. Quote of the night "We're going on a train! And a boat!" (that was for you Seth) :)

Hanging out enjoying the view and a beer! (and listening to Australians talk about Twilight) :)

This puppy smelled like baby powder!

Picnic by the water eating the BEST pasta and pizza we had in Italy! The pesto gnoocchi was INCREDIBLE! This was the 2nd time we ordered it :)

Vernazza at twilight. Yes please :)

Enjoyed another evening hanging out with Seasons on the rocks by the water with wine, pizza, and pasta. Vernazza, we will miss you!
